Experience modern plant breeding

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Üplingen.

Future agriculture needs to be environmentally sound, help to fight climate change, consume less water and preserve the valuable resource soil. A growing global population has to be fed, although the amount of available arable land cannot be increased. At the same time, agriculture is also expected to produce more renewable raw materials and bioenergy.

In order to achieve these goals we need plants with new characteristics: Healthy, vital plants that promise high yield, are resistant to pests and diseases – and can thrive in unfavourable environmental conditions such as frost, heat and drought.

We cannot achieve this without modern plant breeding. Universities, research facilities and corporations throughout the world are working to develop new crop varieties using a range of breeding techniques, one of which is plant biotechnology. If you are interested in learning about the advances in plant breeding research, would like to see “real” field trials and find out how genetically modified plants can contribute to sustainable agriculture, you are cordially invited to join us at the Üplingen Plant Science Garden.
